A fortress among vineyards
The Cerco de Artajona is one of the best-preserved medieval fortified complexes in Navarra. Built in the 11th century by the canons of Saint-Sernin de Toulouse, this walled enclosure preserves 9 of its 14 original towers and the Fortress-Church of San Saturnino, visible from miles away crowning the hilltop.
Strolling inside the enclosure is like travelling back to medieval Navarra. The views from the towers encompass the cereal fields, the D.O. Navarra vineyards and the surrounding mountain ranges. Every September, Artajona holds a medieval market that recreates period life with artisans, musicians and traditional gastronomy.
